CATARACT
What is Cataract?
A cataract is a progressive clouding of the eye’s natural lens that reduces clarity and brightness of vision. While most cases are age-related, cataracts may also develop after trauma or due to underlying health conditions. Cataract surgery, removing the opaque lens and implanting an artificial one, is the only proven and permanent solution.

Risk Factors & Causes
Aging
Previous eye surgeries
Diabetes
Excessive UV exposure
Trauma or injury to the eye/head
Smoking
Long-term steroid use
Previous eye surgeries
SYMPTOMS:
Cloudy, fuzzy, foggy, or filmy vision
Problems driving at night because headlights seem too bright
Frequent changes in your eyeglass prescription
Seeing double (even with 1 eye closed)
Changes in the way you see colours
Better near vision for a while (in far-sighted people)
Problems with glare from lights or from the sun
What Are the Complications?
Increased eye pressure / glaucoma (≈ 5%)
Drooping eyelid (≈ 1%)
Artificial lens damage or dislocation (≈ 1%)
Severe infection (≈ 0.1%)
Loss of the eye (< 0.01%)
Bleeding inside the eye (≈ 1%)
Corneal swelling or clouding (≈ 1%)
Retinal detachment (≈ 1%)
Blindness (< 0.1%)
What is an IOL?
An intraocular lens (IOL) is an artificial lens implanted in the eye during cataract surgery. When the eye’s natural lens becomes cloudy with age, it stops focusing light properly—just like a camera lens that loses clarity. During cataract surgery, this cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with a clear IOL, helping restore sharp vision.
Types of Intraocular Lenses (IOLs)
Three main IOL options are used in cataract surgery: Monofocal, Toric, and Multifocal lenses.
Monofocal IOLs
-
Reading glasses still needed
-
Clear vision at one distance (usually far)
Toric IOLs
-
Correct astigmatism
-
Sharper vision at all distances affected by astigmatism
-
Reading glasses still needed
Multifocal IOLs
-
Vision for near, intermediate & far
-
Minimal or no need for glasses
-
Ideal for patients with healthy eyes
What Is Multifocal IOL?
IOLs are artificial lenses placed in the eye to replace the natural lens and restore clear vision after cataract surgery. While monofocal IOLs provide clear vision at only one set distance, multifocal IOLs are designed to offer clarity at multiple distances. In simple terms, multifocal IOLs have more than one focal point, allowing you to see both near and far without needing separate glasses.

Our Technology

Veritas Vision System
The Veritas Vision System is a next-generation phacoemulsification platform designed to make cataract removal smoother and safer. It offers stable fluidics, advanced ultrasound technology, and precise control, allowing surgeons to work through very small incisions. This results in a gentler procedure, enhanced accuracy, and improved comfort for the patient.

Catalys Precision Laser System
The Catalys Precision Laser System is a premium femtosecond laser used for laser-assisted cataract surgery. It creates highly accurate incisions, softens the cataract for easier removal, and improves the placement of the intraocular lens. By reducing the energy used inside the eye, it enhances surgical safety and supports faster, clearer visual recovery.
